The flower is an aquatic plant, often growing in muddy swampy conditions. When first looking at the environment in which the flower grows in, the purity symbol can be hard to understand, however once the flower starts to bloom and the delicate petals begin to unfurl, staying pure in colour and beauty, this is when the symbolisation of purity is clear.

The symbol relating to rebirth comes from the Lotus flowers ability to produce numerous flowers from the depths of the water.

Lotus plants produce thousands of seeds each year, many of the seeds grow into the beautiful lotus flowers instantly, some of the seeds are eaten by the wildlife around them, many sink to the bottom of the water and some lay dormant for months or even years. The seeds will go through season changes, the water draining and rising around them. Once the seeds are in the right conditions, they will begin to grow and a new lotus flower will produce. Therefore, the Lotus can remind us that we can grow within the right conditions, it also can show that when something positive ends, another can begin.
